I'm 24, been working corporate **** last couple years, have a degree in Business. I really want to move out of Chicago, been here 12 years. I want to travel, see different cultures, do something exciting, etc. I'm sure I'm not alone. But wondering what people can tell me? What can I do? Is there a job for me to accomplish that?I really want to start a new life. Suggestions/advice?
Your not alone in your desire to travel. The good news is you are doing this at a relative young age, and can always come back to your career. You may even decide to do something else entirely.
There comes a question of money, do you have enough to travel then food, lodging, ect. Also a question of comfort, are you comfortable staying in hostels or small venue hotels? If so then, sit down and really think about the places you want to visit, and then do some research, look at the places where you can stay, and budget, budget, budget. Unfortunately the dollar is rather week in Europe and some places in Asia so you may want to consider other parts of the world.
Also do you own a home or condo? Think about exchanging your place with someone overseas who wants to visit and live in the states for a bit, but proceed with caution with this step.
If money is not as abundant as you would like at this present moment then consider becoming a flight attendant. While they do work, flight attendants get to see the world and they get to do it free or on the cheap. Call all the major airlines in your area and get info on their next trainee classes.
After being a flight attendant for a some years you can always keep it as a second career on the back burner only flying a number of times per year. I have a number of friends that do it and they love it. One was going to medical school and he wanted to switch in life. Now he is traveling internationally and loves it. You can also put in where you would like to be stationed NYC, LA, Miami, Atlanta, SF, where ever the airline has a hub.
Also consider teaching English in a foreign country, although this practice is more popular in eastern Europe and the far east as opposed to western Europe where many people already speak several languages. You should ask for lodging and expense budget.
Since you have a business degree you may also want to look into international business, but that would involve working with a global conglomerate where you can travel from country to country. You would probably have to specialize in something or another.
I would start putting feelers out there just to get the energy moving and be positive. Once you get clear on what you want have Faith/Belief that everything is working out your way, and trust me it will. I speak from experience.
Get clear about what you want, the end result and stick with it all the details will come. Create yourself a good life, you deserve it!I really want to start a new life. Suggestions/advice?
Join the military.
You could join the Merchant Marine or the Peace Corps.
The first answer is great! My husband is in the USN (navy) and so has my father and grandfather. My husband is only 24 and has already been to Scotland, Japan, Hawaii, Singapore, Guam, Italy, Burmuda, Spain, not to mention we've been stationed out of southern Georgia, Seattle, and now we're going to San Diego! He is never bored with his job and has made some great friends, and the benefits are wonderful, too! Talk to a recuiter. You'll start a new life while serving your great country, which is a feeling that's indescribable.
Do not join the military. What about the peace corps? You'll get to travel, plus you will get to really give back to the world in a positive way. Plus it so anti-corportate America. Or if you have enough money saved, see if your job will allow a leave of absence. You could travel, maybe do volunteer work either here or abroad. Good luck - you really are living the American dream - you're young, why be stuck behind a desk - you are going to have the rest of your life to work.
Suicide is the best way.
NOT. Just kidding. You really can do anything you're a free person. Just set your mind to the things you want and in no time you'll see doing them.
